Tips for Catching Those Perfect Halloween Shots

Posted on September 19, 2016 by iceprints

Adorable

Halloween is the most celebrated holiday of the year, second only to Christmas, and loved by children and adults alike. Halloween provides the perfect atmosphere and the perfect props to get the best shots of the children of the entire year. Imagine how great a photo of your little ones in costume and in front of pumpkins, standing in a pile of gold and yellow leaves will look on your favorite mug or glass after sending it to Ice Prints for capturing. Of course, you have to catch those shots for them to be perfect and with children sometimes that’s not an easy thing to do. With that being said, read on below for a few of the top tips for catching those spooky Halloween shots in just the right way.

First, Capture the Mood

It is best to use the early morning and late afternoon light if you want the most gorgeous shots. There should be plenty of houses and yards decorated in your neighborhood. Just make sure to get permission before crossing onto someone’s property to take photos. Your own Halloween and fall décor can’t provide great opportunities for shots as well, so don’t forget to utilize them.

Evening Shots with Jack-O-Lanterns

Every Halloween, the most seasoned photographer’s goal is to get excellent shots of their little darlings with the Jack-O-Lanterns that they so painstakingly carved a few days before. Sometimes it can be a lot easier said than done. So, below some hints will be given.

Make use of that Tripod: It’s the perfect way to get long exposure, so you aren’t just getting the kids and the black holes in the pumpkin, but the entire effect of the pumpkin as well.

Place a few extra tea candles inside the pumpkin; this will make it easier to get your exposure correct. Just be careful as the more tea candles you have in the pumpkin, the easier it is for it to catch fire.

Make sure to take a few photos during the daylight hours as well. Place the pumpkin in some falling leaves or on a wagon filled with hay and have the kids surround it for a perfect Halloween/Fall shot.

Don’t worry about perfection with Jack-O-Lantern shots. Remember, it’s Halloween, blurry photos will make for creepy and scary shots to remember the holiday by.

Have Fun with it

Above all else, Halloween is about having fun! You want your photos to turn out perfect, but you don’t want to be such a perfectionist that you ruin the evening for you and your children. Have fun with the photo sessions and don’t forget to grab a lot of candid shots while the kids are trick-or-treating as well. You’ll be glad you did.

These are just a few tips to help you catch those perfect Halloween shots to remember later. For more information, on adding your perfect shots to the glassware of your choice, visit the professionals at Ice Prints today.
